BPMU Visit to Yogyakarta
On 14-20 February 2016, Badan Perwakilan Mahasiswa Universitas (BPMU) held comparative study in Jogjakarta, the city of students. This is the second time BPMU held the same event in order to improve legislative and executive student’s organization in university level.
It was held again to learn more from other student’s organizations and then apply the learning in Widya Mandala Catholic University if possible. This year, BPMU visited four outstanding campuses in Jogjakarta; Muhammadiyah University of Jogjakarta (UMY), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Sanata Dharma University (USD), and Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW).
Thirteen members of BPMU from three different campuses in Widya Mandala participated in this program. BPMU learned a lot from the comparative study; legislative and executive organization system in university level, Many different names are for legislative students’ organization in university level. In Muhammadiyah University of Jogjakarta and Sanata Dharma University is DPMU (Dewan Perwakilan Mahasiswa Universitas), and SM-KM (Senat Mahasiswa-Keluarga Mahasiswa) in Gadjah Mada University. Some legislative student’s organizations have conducted student’s government, so the system is like DPR; they also have their own political parties!
We also learn various other students’ organizations like UKM (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa). For instance in Duta Wacana Christian University, they have UKM for every culture students come from, so that we can see different cultural celebrations in there! We know more about the campuses in case of faculties, facilities, and cultures by having Tour de Campus – walking around campus, and of course we get more friends from other student’s organizations in Jogjakarta.
